ISLAMABAD, July 10, 2012: The Constitution (Twenty-Second Amendment) Bill 2012 on dual nationality was introduced and sent to the respective Standing Committee for further deliberations in the second sitting of Senate’s 83rd session on Tuesday.
The sitting lasted two hours and 11 minutes. ANP Senators staged a two-minute walkout over the introduction of the bill, which was sent to the Standing Committee after debate.
The Leader of the House remained present throughout the sitting while the Leader of the Opposition did not attend the sitting. Only the parliamentary leaders of the ANP and NP attended the sitting.
Only eight Senators were present at the start and while 36 were there when the sitting was adjourned.
A Call Attention Notice regarding unauthorized sale of land by Pakistan Navy leased to it by the Capital Development Authority, Islamabad, was deferred due to the absence of the relevant Minister.
Following are some key observations of the parliamentary business:
Members’ Participation in House Proceedings
- Senate met for two hours and 25 minutes.
- The sitting commenced at 1045 hours against the scheduled starting time of 1000 hours. The House proceedings started late by 45 minutes.
- The Chairman chaired the sitting.
- The Leader of the House remained present throughout the sitting while the Leader of the Opposition did not attend the sitting.
- Only the parliamentary leaders of the ANP and NP attended the sitting.
- Eight Senators were present at the start and while 36 Senators were present when the sitting was adjourned.
- Two Minority Members were present during the sitting.
- Five Members applied for leave to be absent.
Representation and Responsiveness
- A Call Attention Notice regarding unauthorized sale of land by Pakistan Navy leased to it by the Capital Development Authority, Islamabad was deferred due to the absence of the relevant Minister.
- Eight out of 14 questions were taken up and responded by relevant Minister. Additionally 17 supplementary questions were also asked.
