ISLAMABAD, June 19, 2014: The National Assembly approved 26 Demands for Grants while rejecting all the cut motions moved by the opposition on Thursday during 12th sitting of 12th session, says Free and Fair Election Network in its Daily Factsheet.
The House gave approval to two Demands for Grants of Ministry of National Food Security and Research, 11 of Ministry of Interior and Narcotics Control, five of Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources, two of Ministry of Water and Power and six of Ministry of Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage. However, the opposition lawmakers brought cut motions on Demands for Grants of Ministry of Interior and Narcotics Control, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources and Ministry of Water and Power, which were rejected by the House.
The National Assembly also approved a motion to form a committee comprising members of all parliamentary parties for electoral reforms. The House also offered prayers for early recovery of female MNA of MQM who was shot injured in Lahore.
The lawmakers spoke on 11 points of order consuming 42 minutes of the proceedings.
Following are some key observations of the parliamentary business:
Members’ Participation in House Proceedings:
- The National Assembly met for nine hours and 7 minutes taking a prayer break of 43 minutes.
- The sitting started at 1039 hours against the scheduled time of 1000 hours, witnessing a delay of 39 minutes.
- The Speaker presided over the sitting for three hours and 43 minutes while the Deputy Speaker chaired the proceedings for four hours and 41 minutes.
- The Prime Minister did not attend the sitting while the Leader of the Opposition was there for four hours and 49 minutes.
- The Federal Minister for Finance attended the sitting for three hours and 11 minutes.
- The parliamentary leaders of MQM, ANP, JI, PkMAP, QWP and PML-F were present while the sole members of APML, AMLP and PML-Z also attended the sitting.
- Sixty members were present at the outset while 75 were there at the adjournment. A maximum of 176 members were observed to be present at one point of the sitting.
- Nine minority members attended the sitting.
- Seven members applied for leave.
