ISLAMABAD, May 19, 2014: The Senate discussed the national sports policy and the prevailing political situation in the country during fifth sitting of 104th session on Monday, says Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN) in its Daily Factsheet.
Twelve senators and a minister debated the motion under rule 218 regarding the national sports policy with particular reference to Pakistan Sports Board. The discussion continued for an hour and five minutes.
Five lawmakers also discussed the current political scenario in the country on a motion under rule 218 jointly moved by seven lawmakers, including three of PPPP and four ANP.
The sitting was adjourned during the discussion and rest of the agenda was left unaddressed.
Following are some key observations of the House proceedings:
Members’ Participation in House Proceedings
- The Senate met for two hours and 24 minutes.
- The sitting started at 1646 hours against the scheduled time of 1600 hours with a delay of 46 minutes.
- The Deputy Chairman presided over the entire sitting as the Chairman was absent.
- Twelve senators were present at the outset, 29 at adjournment while a maximum of 40 at one point during the proceedings.
- The parliamentary leaders of PML-N, PPPP, and PkMAP attended the sitting.
- Two minority members were also present.
- The Leader of the House attended the entire sitting while the Leader of the Opposition came 54 minutes late.
Representation and Responsiveness
