Islamabad, February 26, 2024: The Provincial Assembly of Sindh convened on Monday for the third sitting of its inaugural session, during which the Chief Minister was elected.
The following are key observations of the sitting:
- Murad Ali Shah of the Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPPP) and Mr. Ali Khurshidi of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) submitted their nominations for the position of Chief Minister. Following the voting process, Mr. Murad Ali Shah secured 112 votes and was duly elected as the Chief Minister of Sindh, while Mr. Ali Khurshidi received 36 votes.
- Members belonging to Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) staged a protests on the alleged rigging in elections. The protest lasted 10 minutes.
- Moreover, a newly-elected member belonging to the PPPP also took oath during the sitting.
- As many as 19 members spoke on for an hour and 25 minutes to congratulate the newly elected Chief Minister.
- In his inaugural address, the newly elected Leader of the House spoke for almost 45 minutes.
- The session commenced 37 minutes behind schedule, lasting three hours and 59 minutes, including a 25-minute recess. Initially, 152 members were present, reduced to 150 by the session’s conclusion. Additionally, eight members elected to seats reserved for minorities attended the sitting.
- The session was prorogued sine die.
