ISLAMABAD, February 28, 2024: The inaugural session of the 12th Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly commenced on Wednesday with the induction of newly elected members, who took the oath of office during the first sitting.
The following are key observations of the sitting:
- The outgoing Assembly’s Speaker presided over the sitting, administering the oath to 118 members. Following the oath-taking, members proceeded to sign the Roll of Members in accordance with Rule 7 of the Rules of Procedures of the Provincial Assembly of Sindh 2013.
- Witnessing a delay of an hour and 35 minutes, the sitting lasted for an hour and 10 minutes. According to the Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN), as many as 118 members present at the outset, and remained until the end.
- Members belonging to Government and Opposition bunches chanted slogans against each other.
- The Speaker announced that elections for the new Speaker and Deputy Speaker would be held on Thursday, February 29, 2024, with nominations being accepted until the end of February 28, 2024.
- The next sitting will be held on Thursday February 29, 2024 at 1000 Hours.
