ISLAMABAD, March 1, 2024: The Provincial Assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa convened on Friday for the third sitting of its inaugural session, during which the Chief Minister was elected.
The following are key observations of the sitting:
• Mr. Ali Amin Gandapur of the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) and Dr. Ibadullah Khan of the Pakistan Muslim League—Nawaz (PMLN) submitted their nominations for the position of Chief Minister.
• Following the voting process, Mr. Ali Amin Gandapur secured 90 votes and was duly elected as the Chief Minister of KP, while Dr. Ibadullah Khan secured 16 votes.
• In his inaugural address, the newly-elected Leader of the House spoke for 30 minutes.
• Members belonging to Government and Opposition benches chanted slogans against each other.
• The session commenced 45 minutes later than the scheduled time and lasted for an hour and 55 minutes.
• Initially, 90 members were present, with the attendance reaching 100 by the end of the sitting.
• The session was prorogued sine die.
