ISLAMABAD, March 13, 2024: The National Assembly convened on Wednesday for the sixth sitting of its inaugural session.
The following are key observations of the sitting:
• During the sitting, two lawmakers, one each belonging to Muttahida Qaumi Movement (Pakistan) (MQM-P) and Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPPP), took an oath of membership. Lawmakers affiliated with the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) chanted slogans during the oath-taking ceremony.
• The House adopted a resolution, initiated by a PPPP lawmaker, commending the Supreme Court’s verdict in the former Prime Minister Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto’s reference case. Another resolution, proposed by PPPP lawmakers to utilize the assembly hall for Senate elections, was also passed.
• A total of eight members spoke on nine points of order for 39 minutes.
• The sitting commenced 49 minutes later than scheduled and lasted for 56 minutes.
• At the beginning of the sitting, 175 lawmakers were present, while 98 were present at the end. Additionally, five members elected to reserved seats for non-Muslims attended the sitting.
• The next sitting of the National Assembly will be held on Friday, March 15, 2024, at 1100 Hours.
