FACTSHEET – PROVINCIAL ASSEMBLY OF BALOCHISTAN SESSION 1 SITTING 1


ISLAMABAD, February 28, 2024: The inaugural session of the 12th Balochistan Assembly witnessed the swearing-in ceremony of newly elected members, held on Wednesday.

  • In the absence of outgoing speaker Mir Muhammad Khan Jamali, Mr. Zamrak Khan Achakzai (ANP)( (nominated by Governor of Balochistan to preside over the first session) administered the oath to 57 lawmakers, followed by the signing of the Roll of Members in accordance with Rule 6 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business, 1974.
  • The session commenced 41 minutes behind schedule and lasted for 29 minutes. According to the Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN), all 57 members present at the outset remained until the end, including three members elected on seats reserved for minorities.
  • The chair announced that elections for the new Speaker and Deputy Speaker would take place on Thursday, February 29, 2024. Nominations for Speaker and Deputy Speaker will be accepted until 12:00 AM on February 29, 2024.
  • The next sitting of the Balochistan Assembly will be held on Thursday February 24, 2024 at 1500 Hours.
