ISLAMABAD, March 2, 2024: The Balochiatn Assembly elected the Provincial Chief Minister on Saturday during third sitting of its inaugural session.
The following are key observations of the sitting:
• The sole candidate for the office of the Chief Minister Mr. Sarfraz Bugti of Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPPP) was elected unopposed as Chief Minister by securing 41 votes.
• The Chief Minister-elect addressed the House for six minutes
• As many as 24 members spoke on points of order (POs) for an hour and 50 minutes. The lawmakers speaking on POs congratulated the Chief Minister- elect and highlighted multiple governance issues concerning the province.
• The session commenced for an hour and 20 minutes behind schedule, lasting for an hour and 59 minutes,
• The House approved the motion proposed by a Pakistan Muslim League—Nawaz’s (PMLN) lawmaker to utilize the assembly hall for the elections of the President and the Senate.
• Initially, 52 members were present, reduced to 50 by the session’s conclusion. Additionally, two members elected to seats reserved for minorities attended the sitting.
• The session was prorogued sine die.
