ISLAMABAD, February 23, 2024: The newly-elected members of the 18th Provincial Assembly of Punjab took oath of membership during the first session’s inaugural sitting on Friday.
The following are key observations during the sitting:
- The outgoing Assembly’s Speaker officiated the oath to 321 members followed by the signing of the Roll of Members in accordance with Rule 7 of the Rules of Procedures of the Provincial Assembly of Punjab 1997.
- The session commenced two hours and 19 minutes behind schedule, lasting three hours and 19 minutes, with a break of an hour and 39 minutes for Friday prayers.
- According to the Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN), there were 306 members present at the outset of the sitting and 147 at the end. As many as five members elected on the seats reserved for minorities attended the sitting.
- The Speaker announced that elections for the new Speaker and Deputy Speaker would take place on Saturday, February 24, 2024.
- The next sitting of the Punjab Assembly will be held on Saturday February 24, 2024 at 1600 Hours.
