ISLAMABAD, February 28, 2024: The Provincial Assembly of Punjab convened on Wednesday for the first sitting of second session, for the approval of the motion for grants.
The following are key observations of the sitting:
- The House approved the motion by Pakistan Muslim League—Nawaz’s (PMLN) lawmaker, proposing a sum not exceeding Rs. 358,941,781,000 to be granted to the Governor of Punjab for non-charged expenditures during March 1 to March 31, 2024, within the Financial Year 2023-24. The House also reviewed the scheduled authorized expenditure for the same period, which received approval.
- With a delay of three hours and 14 minutes, the sitting lasted for 59 minutes.
- During the sitting, the opposition members protested for three minutes against the motion’s approval.
- The Leader of the House, Ms. Maryam Nawaz Sharif, remained present throughout the sitting. Four members, including the Speaker, spoke on the motion, utilizing 15 minutes, while five lawmakers addressed on Points of Order for 16 minutes.
- Additionally, the Speaker announced four panel chairpersons, comprising Mr. Rana Munawar Hussain, Mr. Syed Haider Gillani, Mr. Ghulam Raza, and Ms. Rahila Naeem.
- At the start, 254 members were present, with 297 members present by the end, including five members representing minority seats.
