ISLAMABAD, February 24, 2024: The newly-elected members of the 16th Provincial Assembly of SINDH took oath of membership during the first session’s inaugural sitting on Saturday.
The following are key observations of the sitting:
- The outgoing Assembly’s Speaker officiated the oath to 147 members followed by the signing of the Roll of Members in accordance with Rule 7 of the Rules of Procedures of the Provincial Assembly of Sindh.
- The session commenced 40 minutes behind schedule, lasting two hours and eight minutes, with a break of ten minutes.
- According to the Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN), as many as 140 members were present at the outset of the sitting and 110 at the end. Eight members elected on the seats reserved for minorities also attended the sitting.
- The Speaker has announced the schedule for the elections of the new Speaker and Deputy Speaker, scheduled to occur on Sunday, February 25, 2024. According to the schedule, nomination papers will be accepted between 1400 and 1500 hours, with the submission deadline set for 1700 hours. Scrutiny of the nomination papers will take place at 1800 hours, and the list of valid nominations will be posted at 1900 hours on February 24, 2024.
- The next sitting of the Sindh Assembly will be held on Sunday February 25, 2024 at 1100 Hours.
