ISLAMABAD, June 11, 2016: The National Assembly continued the discussion on the Budget 2016-17 on Saturday during eighth sitting of the National Assembly’s 33rd session, says Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN).
Following are some key observations of the House proceeding:
Members’ Participation in House Proceedings

The National Assembly met for an hour and 51 minutes.

The sitting started at 1105 hours against the scheduled time 1100 hours.

The Speaker presided over the sitting for 48 minutes while the Deputy Speaker chaired the rest of the proceeding.

The Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition did not attend the sitting,
-
Eight Federal Ministers were present.

32 MNAs (9%) were present at outset and 74 (21%) at adjournment of the sitting.

The parliamentary leaders of PkMAP, AMLP, PML-Z and APML attended the sitting.

Eight minority members were present.
Representation and Responsiveness

Eight lawmakers – three belonging to PML-N, two each to PTI and PPPP, and one to JUI-F – took part in the general discussion on Budget 2016-17 consuming 95 minutes.
Order and Institutionalization

The lawmakers spoke on two Points of Order consuming as many minutes of the sitting.

The sitting was adjourned at 1256 hours due to lack of quorum pointed out by a PTI lawmaker.
