ISLAMABAD, August 6, 2021: The Provincial Assembly of Sindh addressed 75 percent agenda and adopted two supplementary resolutions on Friday, observes Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN) in its Daily Factsheet.
Following are key observations of the House proceedings during the first sitting of the 22nd session:
Members’ Participation
- The House met for an hour and 15 minutes.
- The sitting started at 02:35 pm against the scheduled time of 02:00 pm.
- The speaker chaired the entire proceedings.
- The deputy speaker was not present.
- The leaders of the House (Chief Minister) and the opposition did not attend the sitting.
- As many as 14 MPAs (23 percent) were present at the outset and 29 (17 percent) at the adjournment of the sitting.
- The parliamentary leaders of PPPP, PTI, MQM and MMAP attended the proceedings.
- Five out of nine minority lawmakers attended the proceedings.
Output
- The House adopted two supplementary resolutions to express solidarity with Kashmiris braving Indian atrocities and condemn attack on Hindu temple in Rahim Yar Khan.
- The Chair announced assent of Governor to 14 bills.
Representation and Responsiveness
- Three out of six starred questions were taken up during the question hour. In addition, the lawmakers asked seven supplementary questions.
- The Chair deferred a privilege motion due to absence of relevant movers, while an adjournment motion of PPPP lawmaker was admitted for discussion related to rising food insecurity in the country.
Order and Institutionalization
- Six lawmakers spoke on points of order for 11 minutes.
- The House was adjourned to meet again on Monday, August 9, 2021 at 02:00 pm.
Transparency
- ‘Orders of the Day’ was available to the legislators, observers and public.
- The attendance of lawmakers was not available to the media and observers.
